Your controls.txt

Only changed buttons are written. Other buttons keep the game’s defaults.

controls.txt
# controls.txt for Tears of the Kingdom (MacNativeGames)
# Delete this file to go back to the default layout.

Write it from Terminal instead

Back up an existing file before replacing it. Run this after closing the game.

Write your current mapping

Follow one example: tap to run

Use the physical bottom button for repeated running taps. This changes one line; the other buttons keep the defaults.

Choose Run by tapping above, then download your file. Follow the installation steps ↓

Check an existing file

Paste the UTF-8 text from your current file. A valid file loads into the editor. A rejected file leaves your current mapping unchanged.

Put the file in the game’s folder

  1. Close the game. Keep a copy of an existing controls.txt if you want to restore it later.
  2. Open the folder in Finder. Choose Go → Go to Folder and paste ~/Library/Application Support/MacNativeGames/TOTK/.
  3. Save your file as controls.txt. The complete path is ~/Library/Application Support/MacNativeGames/TOTK/controls.txt.
  4. Restart the game. Its launcher checks the file. If it rejects a line, use the reported line number in the checker above.

Return to the game’s defaults

Close the game and move controls.txt out of that folder, or delete it with the command below. Then restart the game. Your saves are in a different subfolder.

Delete the custom mapping only
rm ~/Library/Application\ Support/MacNativeGames/TOTK/controls.txt

Choose how a press behaves

Hold
The action stays down while you hold the physical button.
Tap
Holds the action for 400 milliseconds after each press. The project’s running example uses repeated taps.
Toggle
Each press toggles the action on or off. It is also cleared when the left stick returns to center after moving. A held B has a different meaning while climbing.
Aim
Pair an aim button with a different fire button, such as l2 = zr aim r2.

Use the default TOTK_FACE_BUTTONS=position behavior for these physical-position labels. The alternative label launch mode changes how face buttons are interpreted.
