MAJORA’S MASK / TWO MAC ROUTES

Majora’s Mask on Mac: choose your project

2 Ship 2 Harkinian and Zelda 64: Recompiled both have Mac downloads. They use different projects and ROM compatibility rules, so choose the route before preparing files.

Choose 2Ship for its source-port route, or Zelda 64: Recompiled for static recompilation. Both use your ROM; neither requires the TOTK build wizard.

Install 2 Ship 2 Harkinian

Check your ROM

Use 2Ship’s compatibility checker or its supported-hash list. The two names are NTSC-U 1.0 and NTSC-U GC.

Your ROM matches an entry for this project.

Get the Mac release

Choose 2Ship-Battler-Bravo-Mac.zip from release 5.0.1. Extract the package to a permanent local location and follow its included Mac packaging.

You have 2ship.app rather than a Windows or Linux package.

Open and select the ROM

Run 2ship.app and select the supported ROM when asked. Let it prepare the game data.

The title appears after its first-run work finishes.

Install Zelda 64: Recompiled

Check the Mac and ROM

The project requires macOS 13.0+ and an Apple silicon or supported Intel Mac. It accepts the US N64 release; supported file formats are converted when needed, but another region is not made compatible by renaming it.

The ROM is the US N64 version.

Get the macOS ZIP

Download Zelda64Recompiled-v1.2.2-macOS.zip from v1.2.2. Extract and open the included app.

The project’s launcher opens.

Choose the ROM in the launcher

Select the compatible ROM and start the game. Use the launcher’s own settings and mod support for later changes.

The game reaches its title; settings belong to this route rather than 2Ship.

Change graphics backends from Settings and restart. The README lists Metal as the Mac default and OpenGL as an alternative. Keep a copy of settings before editing 2ship2harkinian.json by hand.

Keep the two installations separate

Zelda 64: Recompiled stores saves at ~/Library/Application Support/Zelda64Recompiled/saves. Its release notes say saves are separate from the app when updating that project.

Back up each project’s own data before replacing its app or adding mods. Do not assume the two projects’ saves, settings or mod files can be exchanged.
