Download the Mac package from Ship of Harkinian’s releases. The app needs a compatible Ocarina of Time ROM on first launch. This guide follows 9.3.1 “Dewey Bravo”.

Check the ROM before you install

Use the project’s ROM compatibility checker or compare the file’s SHA-1 with the supported-hash list for 9.3.1. That list includes PAL, NTSC and GameCube/Master Quest variants; a familiar filename alone does not identify the right data.

Read a local ROM’s SHA-1
shasum -a 1 "/path/to/your-ocarina-rom.z64"

Compare the 40-character result with the list, including the named region and revision. Keep the original ROM available for the first extraction.

Get the Mac release

Open the 9.3.1 release and choose SoH-Dewey-Bravo-Mac.zip. Extract it to a permanent local folder.

You have the Mac package, rather than the Windows ZIP or Linux AppImage.

Move the app into Applications

Open the included SoH.dmg and drag soh to Applications, as in the project’s Mac setup guide. Avoid temporary and cloud-synced locations.

soh.app is available in Applications after the disk image is closed.

Open the installed app

If macOS blocks an unidentified app, first verify that your download came from the original project. Use the guide to the exact macOS warning for the appropriate next step.

The app reaches its first-run prompts rather than stopping at a system warning.

Let the first extraction finish

Select the supported ROM

On the first-run prompts, allow the app to locate and extract the game data, then select your checked ROM.

A Generating OTR or Processing OTR notification appears.

Ship of Harkinian notification reading Generating OTR.

After selecting the ROM, this notification means the game data is still being extracted. Wait for it to finish before the game opens.

Wait for the game to open

The extraction runs in the background. Keep the app open until the success notification and game window appear. If this stage crashes, note the app version and use the extraction case.

The game starts after its data has been generated.

The game’s settings menu lets you choose a graphics backend; macOS supports Metal and OpenGL. A backend change requires a restart. Use the project’s controls reference when remapping a controller.

Add changes after the base game works

Start the unmodified game once before adding custom assets. Ship of Harkinian’s README places custom .otr assets in its mods folder. Use assets made for the installed project version, and keep a copy of your settings and saves before updating.
